Prove It

Action is about proving to the reader that they can envision the most intricate event that is happening all at once, even though you must tell it in sucessive sentences. This is extremely difficult to master, especially while avoiding the pitfalls of "Meanwhile" "And then" and "Just as". Over use of these and other phrases undermines the action and embraces the description. I am reminded of several writers that have mastered the action scene, and if you want to learn from the best I suggest Sarah Douglas, Terry Goodkind, Clive Barker, Dan Simmons, and Stephen King to start with.
