Scenes from a National Novel Writing Month Write-In

When I crashed this Day 11 National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) event at Cosi (at the corner of 13th Street and 6th Avenue), I found the writers relaxed, cheerful, and right on schedule at around 18,000 words. Erin, the municipal liaison (ML) for NYC, has arranged for this weekly event as well as a Wednesday evening meet-up at the Tea Spot on MacDougal and West 3rd. She said that some 100 people are attending events in Manhattan this year, up from eight in 2002. (Additional write-ins are going on in Brooklyn and Queens.)

The pictures that follow will give you a glimpse of the supportive community that NaNoWriMo fosters and an idea of some of the projects it inspires. Interested in locating a group in your area? The NaNoWriMo site will hook you up.
