point of view

By Ginny Wiehardt, About.com

Definition:

Point of view is the perspective from which a story is told; the narrator's position in relation to the story. Point of view may be first person, third person, or less commonly, second person. In addition, third person perspectives may be third person limited or third person omniscient.

Think more about how to choose a point of view, or practice switching from one point of view to another with this writing exercise.

Examples:
Wuthering Heights begins from the point of view of one of Heathcliff's tenants, and is told in the first person singular.
