Your Very Own Website

I think Stacy was right - Keep It Simple, but also make it easy to navigate with clearly marked tabs - reduce the size of pictures you use so they load easy and quickly, and if you write text, make paragraphs short - reading on the computer screen you need to think in terms of bursts, not diatribes. Content is King on your website - but make sure it is easily accessible - have a links page and make sure when your guest clicks a link it opens in a new window - so dropping back into your site is easy. Keep it simple!

OK, I admit it: I have a super old computer. And it takes forever for certain sites to load. But it's frustrating to go to an author site and then not be able to navigate it because every page is so image-laden. So I say, if someone tries to talk you into something super fancy, ask what this is going to do to the user experience--and I mean for all of the users, not just the ones with brand-new macs.
