high school

I'm a high school student, and the creative writing elective at my school is pretty good. For HS students, consider the option if it's available, because you get a community, advice on stories, and great opportunities to practice writing.

Finding the Writers Center

Found through recommendations from trusted friends, always the best way: I have taken five in-person courses at the Writers Center (www.writer.org). They also offer online courses. The general quality is excellent and the organization is well-established and highly professional -- and an excellent credential for your 'brief bio'.

Adult Education Classes

The county where I live, Arlington Co., VA, offers adult education classes in a number of disciplines, including writing. I took my first in the May & June session, and start the second in the series next month. The class was a very good value and is a great place to start.
