Ditmas Workspace in a Nutshell:
Ditmas Workspace, located in beautiful Ditmas Park, offers South Brooklyn writers and freelancers full-time (Mon.Fri., 8:30am6pm) and part-time access to a work space with all the amenities of an office -- desk, chair, wireless Internet, printer/scanner/copier/fax, as well as tea and coffee. Two Kinds of Workspaces:
Ditmas Workspace is on the ground floor of a landmarked Victorian house, and consists of five open rooms with desks and chairs. It is roughly divided into two areas: quiet rooms, for those who need a peaceful atmosphere in order to focus and work, and a more dynamic space -- largely occupied by political bloggers and editors -- which has more of a newsroom feel. The experience is something between working at a cafe and working at an office. In the evenings, the space is also available for community groups.Getting to Ditmas Workspace:
For those unfamiliar with Ditmas Park, it's the part of Brooklyn with the gorgeous Victorian houses north of Midwood and south of Prospect Park. Ditmas Park residents have only a short walk to the workspace on 17th Street. For other Brooklynites, it's two blocks from the Newkirk Avenue B and Q stop, and three blocks from the Cortelyou Road stop. From neighborhoods like Park Slope and Midwood, it's an easy bike ride. Why Ditmas Park?:
In recent years Ditmas Park has seen an influx of artists, professionals, and telecommuters. Like many in the area, co-founder Liena Zagare felt the need for a dedicated workspace after trying to work in cafes: There was only so much coffee one could drink, and so many neighbors one could talk to before realizing how distracting all of it was, regardless how good the coffee or wonderful the neighbors. Those already in Ditmas Park will find a convenient retreat from these distractions; others will have that -- and the chance to get to know this friendly, attractive neighborhood.
