Submit Work to Teen Ink

By Ginny Wiehardt, About.com

Teen Ink Basics:
Teen Ink is a magazine, website, and book series founded in 1989 and written entirely by teens. The magazine has a circulation of over 350,000 and includes articles on politics, the environment, health, travel, college applications, and culture, as well as poetry, short stories, reviews, and art. The magazine is published monthly, from September to June, by the Young Authors Foundation, a nonprofit organization.
Teen Ink Raw:
Writers can also participate in Teen Ink Raw, where unedited teen-generated poetry, fiction, reviews, and art are posted; readers provide comments and feedback. Top-rated work is highlighted online and may be published in the magazine.
Classes and Books:
Teen Ink partners with Gotham Writers Workshop to offers classes for teens and young adults, and it publishes the Teen Ink Books Series, which showcases the work of teen writers. In addition, they host a summer writing program in New York. For more information about it, write NYC@TeenInk.com.
Submit to Teen Ink:
Submit fiction, nonfiction, art, and photos to Teen Ink either online, by email (Editor@TeenInk.com), or by snail mail (Teen Ink, Box 30, Newton, MA 02461). See their site or the magazine for full details. Published writers receive a copy of Teen Ink along with some Teen Ink goodies.
Writing Sample, from "The Healer" by Lucia Tang:
"Ekkehart sees her for the first time on the bridge, in the carriage he has ridden for four frostbitten nights. The moon is a sliver of old corrupted lime, casting its light onto a city pearly with cold. Snow falls in dagger crystals, knifing through the air. It slashes at the top of the carriage, at its fur-lined curtains. It slashes through them and into Ekkehart's lungs, and he coughs."
