  • Dayton Literary Peace Prize -- March 12
    The Dayton Literary Peace Prize, the only international literary peace prize awarded in the United States, seeks nominations for books that focus on the theme of peace. Winners receive a $10,000 honorarium and will be honored at a gala ceremony. To submit a book for consideration, visit their site. No entry fee.

  • The Pinch Writing Awards -- March 15
    A prize of $1,500 for fiction of up to 7,000 words. First-, second-, and third-place stories will be published. Send contest entries and subscriptions to: Fiction Contest, The Pinch, Department of English, The University of Memphis, Memphis, TN 38152. $20 entry fee includes subscription.

  • Arts and Letters Prizes -- March 16
    The Arts & Letters Prizes competition offers publication and a $1,000 prize. All submissions will be considered for publication. Send to: Arts & Letters Prizes, Campus Box 89, Georgia College & State University, Milledgeville, GA 31061. Entry fee: $15.00, includes subscription to Arts & Letters.

  • Bristol Short Story Prize -- March 31
    Awards of £500, £350, £200, and publication in the Bristol Short Story Prize Anthology. Submit stories of 3,000 words or less online or via snail mail: Bristol Short Story Prize, Bristol Review of Books, 81g Pembroke Rd., Bristol BS8 3EA, UK. £7 entry fee.

  • Gulf Coast Writing Contests -- March 31
    Prize is $1,000 in each genre (Poetry, Fiction, and Nonfiction) and publication in Gulf Coast. Submit one previously unpublished story or essay (25 pp max) to Gulf Coast Prize [genre], English Department, University of Houston, Houston, TX 77204-3013. $20.00 reading fee includes subscription.

  • The Jackson, Phelan & Tanenbaum Awards -- March 31
    Two awards of $2,000 each and one award of $3000 are offered annually to young writers (between 20 and 35 years of age) who are either California-born or currently residing in Northern California or Nevada for an unpublished manuscript-in-progress. Submit manuscripts of no more than 40 pages to Awards Coordinator, Intersection for the Arts, 446 Valencia Street, San Francisco, CA 94103. No entry fee.
