Mary Higgins Clark, the grande dame of American mysteries, is clearly a beloved figure among MWA members. Many of the established writers in the room remember her going above and beyond to making them feel welcome when they were new members, just getting started as writers. "I can't do anything to repay her for that," Jeremiah Healy said, "but what I can do is pay it forward, and do for today's young writers what she did for me."
