Former Grand Master Lawrence Block (Hit and Run) presented this year's award to Bill Pronzini (Fever). Block was quoted several times over the course of the evening as having said, "It's not necessary for someone else to fail for me to succeed," and this seemed to sum up the spirit of the organization. Many of these writers have won other honors, but clearly an Edgar means something different coming as it does from their peers.
