Susan Straight, Winner for Best Short Story for "The Golden Gopher," which was published in Los Angeles Noir, and Tana French, winner for In the Woods for Best First Novel by an American Author, share stories after the awards ceremony. A former actress, French got the idea for her bestselling novel while working on an archaeological dig. She took a break from working to look out at the woods, and found herself wondering what would happen if three boys went in and only one came out. "But how I got from that moment to this one," she told the audience, "I have no idea."
