The Raven Award recognizes organizations that support or promote the genre. This year, the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress and Kate's Mystery Books in Boston received the award. Mattes moved the crowd with a story of how she fell in love with mystery novels during a lonely summer in her childhood. "That was the year I learned that books could be friends," she said in her acceptance speech.
