Novelists Sujata Massey (Shimura Trouble) and Naomi Hirahara (Summer of the Big Bachi) presented the award for Best Young Adult Novel to Tedd Arnold for his book Rat Life, which portrays an aspiring young writer in 1970s Upstate New York who forms a friendship with a Vietnam vet.
