On the Media on Books

Wednesday July 5, 2006
Two segments on NPR's "On the Media" this weekend caught my attention as being highly pertinent to the future of books and writing. One focused on changing trends in the publishing industry and the role that electronic publishing might play in adapting to these trends. The other profiled the writer John Shors and showed how he has successfully worked with book groups to market his first novel. In essence, they gave us some bad news about the publishing industry (1% of all books published make 80% of the money), and then provided one example of a writer finding a creative way to navigate these unhappy trends.
