Does Twilight Movie Stand Up to the Book?
So Twilight has had two nights in the theaters now, and reviews have not been good, despite the well-matched sensibility of director Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown). The Chicago Tribune said that the film failed to create the visual magic necessary to the story: "Hardwicke was right to concentrate on getting the smoldering down between her stars, but the story depends on Bella's (and the audience's) amazement at this strange new world of supernatural feats." Variety called it "a supernatural romance in which the supernatural and romantic elements feel rushed, unformed and insufficiently motivated, leaving audiences with little to do but shrug and focus on the eye-candy."
But the real question, at least in my mind, is what fans of the book thought. After all, they're the intended audience, not the critics. So what did you think? Did the movie do justice to the book, or did it fall down on the job? The movie’s display was incredibly wrong after having lived the book’s detailed discription. Even one who has never read the book would be kept in wonder about certain scenes and different aspects of the developement of the characters. Small details were changed, and any one who’s read “Twilight” can handle those small transitions, but the characters acting in the wrong scenes describing wrong things at wrong times throws readers off to a high extent. The movie might have been intriguing if Bella Swan’s character was portrayed correctly, Edward Cullen wasn’t overdoing “sexy” and ended up awkward, and if the “dead” look of the Cullens didn’t look like flour was thrown on random people, then perhaps it may have made readers more apt to accept different things. I for one did not enjoy the movie at all. It was incredibly poor discription and though the movie had to be cut shorter than the book would have ever extended it to, improvisation was the last of all the things to have needed to be added. There was little, if no, magic in this movie and the romanticism never clicked because the chemistry between actors never engaged. (Bella Swan had more chemistry with her father than Edward in the movie for crying out loud!) I’m not impressed and I’m not looking forward to any othe movies they plan to “remake” of this book series.
Okay, in my opinion… both the books and the movie was amazing. Nothing could ever compare. I have never, ever had a passion so strong for anything in my life. Therefore, Stephenie Meyer has perfected my life. I never would’ve thought to get into three hundred, four hundred, five hundred and even six hundered paged books, at first I thought I’d become entirely bored but once I got into the books, I couldn’t put them down. I also thought that the movie was incredible, Catherine Hardwicke did an amazing job directing the movie. They also chose the perfect people for the roles in the movie. For example, Edward and Bella. They look exactly like the match made in heaven; both so beautiful and bold. As of the rest of the characters. When it comes down to it all, the books shouldn’t be judged by critics, it should be judged by us, the readers.

I know ALL things Twilight.
Oh and “Sarah F”, I definitely think you are wrong in every single way.
I’m just going to say what I think, as a reader of the twilight series. I think that how they made everyone look was perfect, becasue 1) I don’t like it when people look fake or edited 2) You feel as though they are in the real world and the whole hooywood fakeness. And 3) you feel as though they are real.
The way everyone looked was great! Not fake, not edited, not polished! I also like the way Kristen and Robert acted as their charaters. They acted REAL. I love everything in the movie.
The only thing I was really worry was that when the movie started, the ‘fangirls’ around me would start screaming their heads off at ‘Edward’. But they didn’t.
Over all, I loved the movie. At first, Edward’s paused speech and skittishness annoyed me, but then, I realized that Bella made him nervous, uneasy, because of the fact that he couldn’t read her time. I thought Rob’s portrayal of that was PERFECT. I do, however, agree with Sarah, he was awkward throughout most of the movie. Edward’s a very strong character in Twilight, and to speak truthfully I didn’t really see that in the movie.
I remember there being a line, which I can not currently recall, Bella saying that left me speechless, because it made a reference to something that was completely not mentioned in the movie. And also, the whole, “Lion -> Lamb” scene was odd and utterly forced. It seemed in like two seconds Bella and Edward fell in love. And did anyone else notice they never once said, “I love you?”
Mostly, I feel sorry for the people who went and saw the movie without having already read the book. I’m sure they were confused as hell.
Other than all that, and a lack of focus on the other characters, I adored the movie. They did a beautiful job with most of the acting and the directing. My favorite scene was the one where they’re in the Cullen Garage and both cars pull out and Edward’s standing there alone. I swear I stopped breathing for half a second – it was amazing!
I look forward to seeing New Moon. Jacob’s characterization was absolutely perfect, and I can’t wait to see more of him. =D
The whole movie was messed up! I mean the scenes where ALL wrong for 1: the biology incident. 2: When the car almost hit her she was supposed to hit her head on the ice twice. I mean if she sees Edward whats the poin of keeping it secret. 3: I don’t remember the book saying they went on a field trip. 4: She was surpised when she realized she was oing to the prom.
Because they went from bad characters to clothes then to the scene.
Jasper looked like he was in pain. Emmentt looked he was about to kill someone.
The only character I liked was Rosalie and I can’t stand her in the books.
If they make a new moon I won’t even watch it.
Well..
overall i like the movie though in my opinion it did not live up the book. some of the sweet moments of bella and eduard were never elaborated. Like the chapter in the book were in they exchange questions about themselves, their lunches in the cafeteria and the night where eduard sung bella the lullabye and also the morning where eduard says “Breakfast time.” and bella quickly hold her neck in both her hands that should be a joke and eduard rephrase his statement, “Breakfast for the human”.
the biology class where eduard cutclass because they are doing blood sampling also was cut to the movie. That scene should leave an impression to the audience that eduard really care for bella.
The chapter “CARSLILE” was also not shown in the movie where eduard tell bella their history and the reason they are “vegetarians” and how they became vampires are cut short like how did carslile found esme and how she came to the point of dying. How alice found her true past through james are also no where to be found in the film.
The characters are perfect but the chemistry of bella and eduard in the film are a bit awkward because the movie was cut short that they didn’t show the audience their passion for each other. Their moments together are being fast forward like in the meadow and in bella’s room.
In my opinion the cullen’s home are not like in the book. While reading the book I imagined a mansion’s front yard to be like a open field with trees but there was no front yard in the movie. The inside of the house is also described as very open and the other end of the house is all glass. In the movie the inside of the house is a bit crowded and all walls are glass! they didn’t show carslile’s office and eduard’s room is very small!! I imagined that its like a library of music records! but hey that is only my opinion..
I like Alice a loT!!!!!!!
though they look cheerful and flirting with each other while in the book they are described quiet and only looking at each other and to their untouched food..
I hate how they make jasper look so weird!!
though a lot of us in the theater laugh at how he look!!
The scene in phoenix hotel where alice and jasper keep an eye on bella was a bit disapponting.. its so fast that they miss some of the details like how bella miss eduard so much because he couldn’t call him cause alice (not bella) holds their means of communication. The conversation of james and bella in the phone was also cut short beacause alice should be there and sees the change in the future because of bella’s descision of meeting james.
OMG!!!!
What do they think bella look like in the prom scene?! though the scene where eduard wait for bella in her house going to the prom is a bit hilarious (thanks to charlie!) I was a bit shocked that bella was wearing snickers instead of stiletos like in the book! and alice should dress bella in the cullen’s house and not in her house! and bella approve to go to the prom without any arguements?! It’s not like bella… and the fun part where eduard calls tyler in bella’s house telling him that he will take bella to the prom and make the promise of not letting her go that night ever.. And Jacob didn’t dance bella!
I like the scene where esme, carslile, emmett and rosalie cooks food for bella. they look so fun to watch and carslile’s line “It’s good to have an excuse to use the kitchen for the first time.”
I like the movie. But I like the book most.
May they make the new moon and eclipse and breaking dawn better because its a bit confusing and my boyfriend (who didn’t read the book) kept asking me “why is that like that”. keep up the good work but please make new moon much better for those who didn’t read the book..
Let’s remember that 1) we knew this was going to be a hard one to put on the screen b/c most of the written story is conveyed through Bella’s thoughts, 2) big screen houses other than Summit has wanted to totally destroy the book for the supposed sake of “marketability” and 3) as a result, the big movie house contract was rejected by SM, so we ended up with an indie budget film, and some of the sortcomings that this is bound to imply, esp on the special effects side. Considering these factors, I think Catherine Hardwick, the screenwriter, and all the actors really committed themselves to do the best they could and did a fantastic job.
Having read all four books and seen the movie (and disliked the books, btw), I actually kind of liked the movie. It compacted some of Meyer’s unnecessary flowery prose into tight, solid scenes. Of course, it didn’t answer the lingering question of just why Bella and Edward love each other. No, really: him being dazzling or her smelling good just aren’t reasons, even if he’s a vampire that sparkles (in the movie, I thought the sparkling was the worst part. It wasn’t as much of an eyesore as I expected. It looked like body glitter).
True, some of the visuals (makeup, for instance) left something to be desired, but I thought the movie accomplished taking a lot of what the readers may have visualized and brought it to life. I personally think that the chemistry between Stewart and Pattinson was palpable, making me enjoy the movie relationship a LOT more than the books, which I felt were flat and unjustified (along with many other adjectives which I’ll leave out for the sake of brevity).
If you have a $35 million budget and only two hours and two minutes to depict a 498 page book and the end product turns out as well as this movie has, then you are quite remarkable. There will always be people who want to criticize others’ efforts. True Twilight fans will be happy to see and hear the characters come to life.It seems that Stephanie loved the movie, so who else’s opinion would carry as much weight as the author’s? I love the fact that so many people have been brought together by these fantastic books and ,now, by the movie.
I went into the movie with low expectations and they were met. Kirsten Stewart was acting like a dead body the entire film. When I read “Twilight” I didn’t imagine Bella as a girl with perma-frown (esp. when a very good looking vampire shows interest in her and tells her he loves her). I saw her as self-sacrificing, not totally connected with her human companions but still freindly, and I imagined her smiling when she cracked a joke or when edward is telling her something sweet. It seem like the only time she actually got the character of Bella right was when she was writhing on the ballet studio floor at the end of the movie. At least Rob Patterson or whatever his name is tried to do Edward justice. It just seemed like Kirsten Stewart read how Bella acted in “New Moon” and said, “Oh, ok I am going to be as depressed and anti-social as I can be.”
Having read every book & seen the movie, I’d say that the movie trumped the book. Personally – and this is JUST ME & my humble opinion – I thought that the books got boring, and that Bella was obnoxious. In the movie, somehow, Kristen Stewart made her likable. Rob Pattz was rather awkward, but in a sweet sort of way, and they had chemistry enough to pull it off. Though I do agree that it would be very hard to watch if you’ve never read the books.
I think Alice could have been given a bigger part in the movie, and there were some things left out that I thoroughly enjoyed in the book. But the movie was quite good, what with the budget, the weather, the expectations, and the fact that screaming 6th grade girls would ultimately be the only ones to adore it.
The vamps were lovely. They all were in character, and Jasper was hilarious in his total silence.
After becoming a fan of the book in a matter of days, the movie was a huge let down
The movie didn’t introduce the characters like the book really does, and it just jumps into them being in love! So many parts that were in the book were left out, and then other parts just happend differently. It was kind of a bummer, I was looking forward to this book series being good like Harry Potter, and the movies equally good as is Harry Potter! HUGE let down!
I thought both the movie and books were awesome. The movie was pretty close to the book, especially since you can’t fit EVERY LITTLE DETAIL into the movie. So, now that I’ve said that…
I LOVED ALICE!!
Ok. Things I did NOT like about the movie:
1 – Edward was so AWKWARD around Bella! He was supposed to be GRACEFUL!! But he did do an amazing job, so congrats Rob.
2 – They didn’t really talk about Jasper’s power…what’s up with that??
3 – Everyone except Bella and Edward had like three lines…
Ok. Now the good things!:
1 – I loved Alice! All the vamps were great, but Alice trumped all!
2 – Charlie and Renee…they were pretty much exactly how they were in the book
3 – The story line was pretty much straight forward…if you read the book, you knew what was going to happen….if you hadn’t, then when you read the book you’ll know what happens
4 – Considering the pressure these people had, with the book being VERY popular and all, they did amazing!
5 – It made people who hadn’t read the book interested in it!
6 – Everyone I know went to see it more than once!
So all in all, it was great! Congrats to Catherine Hardwick and everyone else!
and I liked who they got for James! He is such an awesome bad guy!
Funny- I heard she “snubbed” her college’s newspaper, which then called her cameo in the movie “self-indulgent.” Good stuff.
I love the books however i saw the film and i was very disapointed – i realise it was a big book and you cant fit all the information in however you would think they have put in the BEST SCENES. Such as the meadow scene, blood typing and the cafeteria scene. I was disapointed as espesically as the author of the books worked with the cast – you would think she would have put these vital scenes in. The film NO WAY lives up to the books and i am very disapointed!!!
I thought that the book was better than the movie. The movie was ok… but if i didnt read the book i would have thought the movie was fantastic. well first off rosalie and bella were nothing how i expected them to look like i would have thought they were more prettier also i imagined ther house to be surounded by a meadow bella and edward didn’t even seem to like each other that much also the movie left out alot of good details
I absolutly LOVED the books, i read them all in less than a week (seperatley). I hated the movie. i was sooooo dissapointed a wanted to cry, I even went to the midnight premiere! remember those stupid 2 circle graphs from 3rd grade where the differences would be in the seperate part and the likes would be in the overlapping of the circles, the only thing that would be in the like is the names of the characters! and the fight scene. they got some quotes down but they were ruined by either the wrong scene or the jumpeness of the entire movie. the movie would have been a lot better if bella were to narrate the entire movie. because thats what the books was, like a diary almost. next time movie makers, please please please, i dont care if you must make 3 seperate movies per book, just please make it make sence, get the scenes right not in a hotel instead of an airport >
No offense to you teen-agers out there, but the inappropriate giggling during some scenes spoiled the real intention of them. Am I supposed to laugh? Is this really corny or are these over-zealous teens just too lovesick to not giggle?
Past the giggling, the movie, sadly, doesn’t compare to the book. Since comparisons are being made between Twilight and Harry Potter, the Harry Potter movies were of better quality and matched the books with more honesty. The studio should’ve chosen a different director — one that has experience in this genre. I think the director could’ve demanded a more heartfelt performance from of actors. And yes, the Vanity review is spot on — too rushed to make their passion for each other believable. One minute, they’re not talking. The next, they’re in love? Come on! Someone get Sam Raimi on the phone — or the director from Titanic or Lord of the Rings!
I did not read any of the books but went to the movie with my friends yesterday, who had. I enjoyed most of the movie, primarily because I had no point of comparison. My friends weren’t so happy, but for some reason they expected the characters to look older, but then admitted that in the books they are that age. That’s one problem with reading a book before a movie– you already have a mental image of what the characters look like and how they should act. Movies usually fall short. However, I enjoyed the 2-hour escape from reality. As a published writer and a writing teacher, I say “hat’s off” to the author of the series. Way to go!
I thought the movie lack the sweetness the book brought to me. I felt short changed that the characters could not display that in the movie and I agree that the flour on the face did not help either.
How often does a movie ever triumph over a book?
I knew Twilight was going to be difficult because so much of the magic happened during character conversation, and because I knew of the meager budget…so I didn’t expect Matrix-like fighting or super power scenes (but that would have been cool).
I did enjoy the movie, but I’m sure that’s because I’ve read the books and am aware of how deep the water under the bridge goes.
I’m sorry Stephenie, but i think they did you no justice. I was extremely dissapointed on who played the characters and how the characters were played. The book which sometimes is suppose to be the least exceting was actually WAY BETTER then the movie. I hope they improve on the next movie.
I completely agree with the article. Unfortunatly.
I have a great respect for the Twilight series, but I agree the movie did it no justice! The filming, for one, to me, was all wrong, and not just the scenes but the actual filming, it did’nt feel like I was watching a movie. The filming was more like I was watching a reality show or actualy it reminded me of the movie “thirteen” whch amazes me to find out the director directed that one as well, if you’ve ever seen thirteen, you’d understand, I don’t know what that style of filming is called, but I did’nt like it.
I just recently saw the movie, and also heard a new dirctor will be doing “new Moon” at first I was dissapointed by this, but after seeing the movie, I hope this new director does the next installment some justice, there’s a part of me that hopes they redo the first movie! haha, I know that will never happen, but one can dream.
I was also disapointed by how much the movie did not correlate correctly with the book, I know the books are ALWAYS better than the movies, but nonetheless. There were a lot of important plots that were left out or scrambled, and yes, it did, feel rushed. It felt like all the actors were uncomfortable with each other, and there was no magic. the actor who portrayed Carlisle did a great job to me, it seemed he was very sure of himself as an actor, Esme as well, it could have just been the energy on the set. who knows. The highSchool students bothered me as well, even though they were’nt thee most important characters in the book, they were a bit more complex in the book, they all acted brainless on screen!
so with that off my chest, just keep in mind that I am a huge fan of the books, with the utmost respect for stephenie meyer, and I am hoping this new director takes “new Moon” and hopefully the ones after, with a little more seriousness and adds the magic, that twilight unfortunatly lacked.
omg the movie was amizing!! i do note that the book covered more in detail what happened. but its a movie you cant make it cover everything on the book. are the harry pottter books just like the movie? No. twilight was *AMAZING* i will watch that movie anytime!!!!!!!!
i love the books so much but after watching the movie i had one thing to say about and that is the movie sucked! i mean every1 was saying the wrong lines and acting wierd. i mean i know edward and bella love each other but when they were 2gether it was painful to watch. besides i really dont remember alice and jasper coming in the house by a tree branch. but i strictly remember bella wearing heels and not knowing where she was going but because it really takes the shock and surprise to see what she was going to say. besides bella wasn’t even that much of a clutz. anyway wasn’t edward supposed to fly with bella onto the couch at his house they weren’t supposed to go jumping out of buildings like they were n spiderman or something. but i really expected to see the biology scene. but i was surprised when i heard they were recasting jake. if anybody should be replaced its bella. also i think they put alittle to much make-up on the guys in twilight. but i hope the director of new moon corects the mistakes done to twilight. and besides i really want to see the volturi. but i was wondering what if new moon’s way worse then twilight?
the book is way better than the movie.the movie is all jumbled and the whole story is ruined by the movie after reading the novel. They should redo the movie in the exact way the movies is.The movie is pretty ,uch slow than the book.I love the book but the movie…thumbs down.they coukd do better than that really.they need to redo the movie.
you know you guys are pretty much right, the movie does suck big time.i mean redo the movie in the exact same way the book is than you get a hit.wat i can say to add on wat i said is that all the characters in the movie need to be changed except for jacob and his friends.
the film was a massive dissapointment, i read twilight in one day it was so good i couldnt put it down, but watching the film made me want to throw my shoe at it! The actors were akward around each other, there was no chemistry at all between bella and edward. They changed a lot of the film from the book, i mean come on there was no field trip in the book and many other things were different, i went with a friend who has never read the books and she thought it was pretty good apart fromt the akward acting, but i think if you read the book with all the detail i think you’ll be dissapointed by the film, i hope that Chris weitz makes new moon worth watching!
I love all the books of the Twilight series,
The movie was wonderful but they rushed it, left out alot of the good stuff and changed most parts.
I would have liked them to… copy more things out of the book because to me most fans of the twilight books might not like the movie, but i still really enjoyed the movie.
I saw the movie and loved it! Then I got the book and started reading it. I personally like the book more because it doesn’t just jump into the realtionship like the movie. Don’t get me wrong it’s a wonderful movie (I would watch it again), but it just left out so many romantic and key things. They left out Bella first seeing him sparkle in his favorite spot, the meadow. She also asks many questions that answers so many questions I was left with when I left the theater.
the movie was horrible! i mean the actors looked weird. the guys had WAY! to much make-up. and the girls were SO manly. the only girls who looked real was esme, rosalie and alice. i really thought the movie was BORING and if you read the book you would know why alot of people who didnt read the book liked it and some of the ones who read it were pissed at the director!
I saw the movie first, and then read all 4 published books plus the 12 chapters of the unpublished 5th book immediately. Until I read the books, I liked the movie. I recently went back and saw it again with a friend after reading the books and was disappointed. I had reinvented the characters on my own and fell in love with Edward right along with Bella . The movie left me hungry for the pure emotion that was core to Twilight . Most of my favorite parts from the book were missing from the movie and the plot line moved way too fast. I realize you can’t possibly capture everything in a 2 hour movie but honestly, the movie made it seem that they fell in love in 2.5 seconds and there was no development involved. As far as characters, I think a lot of the roles were cast very well. Edward and Bella were spot on, however the writing was bad, a little forced. Alice, Esme and Carlisle were perfect. Jasper was made more awkward than necessary; I think it was a strained attempt to show that he had a hard time adjusting to the “vegetarian” lifestyle. No complaints about Emmet, however his mate Rosalie was WAY off . I know many people have commented that they liked this selection and my gripe is not that she was poorly acted, just poorly cast. Rosalie is described as being ultra-beautiful and perfect and gorgeous, etc. I did not get that at all from the actress cast.
All in all, I think the movie would have been much better if they had more back story. Perhaps they should have combined what precious little we have from book 5 with book 1 and that would have given us all a little better perspective of our, to borrow from Shakespeare, “star-crossed lovers” .
If like me you are not a teenager, I recommend reading the books versus seeing the movies. The books for the most part are well written, although at times it’s apparent there are geared for a slightly younger crowd.
WAY too lazy to read all the comments.
LOVED & WORSHIPPED the books.
The movie may have been okay to people who didn’t experience the book but tbh THE BOOK WAS IN A WORLD OF ITS OWN IN COMPARISON. movie didn’t even come close.
I watched the movie and then three new moon, eclipse and breaking dawn. I later read twilight. I was amazed that I knew what was going on just from watching the movie. I loved the movie and the books. Although I found Bella very annoying in twilight the book. I felt like there relationship was really drawn out in the book, it was like come on already.
I am so amazed at Stephenie Meyer’s writing. I started reading the books and couldn’t put them down. It has been a really long time since a book has captured me like that. I will continue to be a Stephenie Meyer fan. I hope that she keeps writing for a long time.
The movie most certainly doesn’t stand up to the book. However, the movie was good but all of the detail from the book was missing. There is just so more to the story of Edward and Bella that wasn’t in the movie. How could anyone understand their relationship without the details from the book. I understand that would couldn’t make the movie with all of the detail from the book because it would be far too long. I have read all of the books in the twilight saga and the partial draft of midnight sun. Don’t get me wrong I’m no nerd like some of the people out there who read these books. I’m not CRAZY about the books, I just like them. My opinion doesn’t matter, but I just wished that the movie had some more detail and depth to it. =P I wished the author kept writing more because there is never too much of a good thing…
As a huge fan of the books I was a little apprehensive when I walked in but when I walked out I was favourably impressed. Sure, there were a few bits I thought could have been done better ut overall I was inspired by the clever use of photography and the skill of the actors.
I give it a four out of five.
Well, the book was amazing, period. It reminded me in such detail of what that first rush of real love feels like, down to chills in my spine. It was amazing how Stephanie was able to portray ALL of the crazy thoughts and feelings into words that I could read and actually feel as if I was there in the story, experiencing things myself. The movie, as much as I wanted to see it, was a complete let down. I felt that the characters did not mesh together with the characters in the book. I will give props to Edward in the movie, he was more suiting of his character in the book. I felt no chemistry between the two in the movie till way at the end. I hate how so much was skipped through as well. They take 3 hours to have one lord of the rings movie, and then a typical show time for such an amazing book, missing such amazing things. It was a shame in deed. I looked forward to actually SEEING what I read in the book.. and it was not there. I hope new moon is better…
The book was sooo impressive. I am 40, and read it and loved the story and the characters. I am not some infatuated teen here, but I can see why teens are infatuated!! LOL. Movies are seldom as good as the book, but Twilight the movie missed the mark on SOOO many levels, I was amazed S. Meyers wasnt distressed over it. I know if it was my book and they did that to it, I would be vexed to say the least. The movie COMPLETELY missed the depth of feeling and connection between the characters. That was the best part of the book for me. The fantastic meadow scene was in the wrong place, the first kiss was perfect where it was in the book, and the sweet bedroom scene where he stayed was mutilated by putting the kiss in there. I liked the character selection for everyone except Bella and Rosalie. Both actresses were good, just not quite the way the book described them…sort of close but no cigar. Most of the Cullens were great looks wise, and the acting itself was not terrible. If the movie had just stuck to the book more it would have been EXCELLENT. I will say I did enjoy the baseball scene, and even though it was NOT in the book, the climbing in the trees was a nice addition. But my issues were not with the additions as much as what was missed, looked over changed and left out. I recommend the books but I tell everyone not to waste time with the movie. I have no clue why a screen writer would butcher such a good book by making seemingly unnecessary changes. I thought I might see the second one, when I heard there was a new director, but it is the same writer, so I am done with it. My imagination is WAY closer to the original stories that were just lovely on their own. DUMP THE SCREEN WRITER…SAVE NEW MOON!!!
i think the book was way better than the movie. the actors portrayed the characters the best as they could but i felt as if they didn’t really step in the shoes of bella and edward. i like krisen and rob alot but they didn’t really have the same romance as bella and edward. jasper loooked like he was in pain.emmett was okay.rosalie wasn’t the most beautiful person in the world to me but who is.alice was okay too. they skipped alot of scenes and added many new ones as well. i feel sad for people who didn’t read the book but went out to watch the movie. you wouldn’t get the same concept of the love story.
I finished reading the book and now thinking to watch the movie, but after i saw the trailer and some of the parts on youtube i am not that interested anymore! And that is not because its a bad movie, no!I just dont want to ruin my thoughts about the book. It was so much passion there and so much feelings were showed, it is an amazing book!and also i realused that the scenes in the movie do not match the scenes in the book and they totally ruined my interest of going to the cinema and wathc it. But ill still go, cos i have to make some sort of conclusion. But also we have to remember that films that are based on bokks are no good at all, so there is no need to get dissapointed, we just have to remember that it is just a 2 hour long film, a short summary of the book.
Robert pattinson looks exactly how I imagined Edward, they did a fantabulous job on casting him. I loved the movie, but I think they could have made it better. First of all eric was not Asian second tyler was not black and they discussed him being a vampire in the car not in the woods they never even went in the woods! And the kissing scene with the underwear was way overboard and bellas friends were not rude to her in the book but the director did a fabulous job on the fighting scene I mean OMB all the way.
The movie was a total disappointment. Most of the Cullens didn’t even talk and I think [my own opinion] that most of the fans are really interested in them…like me
PP
Edward looked really awkward and Bella wasn’t that clumsy and funny like she was supposed to.
THE ROMANTIC WAS GONE! It looks more like an action movie.
Anyway Alice, Carlisle and Charley were AWESOME!!!!! ALICE 4EVER! xDDDD
The movie did an injustice to the wonderful book. the characters lacked depth and any chemistry. The direction was terrible. The high school friends (Jessica, Mike, etc) were nothing like I imagined. They were very immature and “LA-ish.” Bella was so insecure, making it harder to understand Edward’s attraction for her. The casting was just all wrong. I truly hope they make serious changes before new moon.
i read all the books and absolutely fell in love with this story, BUT i must agree with those who feel that the movie wasnt anything compared to the books. a lot of details were left out and i honestly feel that the acting was slightly poor as well. i think that in the move itself, a lot more could have been done to satisfy your imagination, ecspecially once you’ve actually read the books. a book is always a lot more detailed, but honestly, they could have done a better job with the movie. im not saying it was terrible, but if you compare it to the books, there is an enourmous difference! i hope that the next movie will be better and have me on the edge of my seat, just like the book did.
i don’t want to repeat every point which are mentioned here but i totally agree with those who feel that the film is nothing in comparison with the books.
kristen stewart just didn’t fit into the film because of her frozen gestures. i think kristen believed she was one of the vamps.
and important scenes were left out (that’s like robbery or a slight against the book).
i’m definitely not going to the next film! it would destroy all the atmosphere which i feel when thinking of the twilight series
All have to keep in mind that movies in American society have to get to the “instant gratification” feelings of the audience as soon as possible. They could have reproduced the books, but at cost of keeping audience entertained consistantly by lengthening the movie. They have to fit a long, fun story in 90 minutes of film time. After 90 minutes people start to lose interest.
Of course people like you and I would love that, because we have the patience to read a book. I would bet all of us readers could easily sit through a 3 hour story on the screen as well.
If any of you that read this, and want to create a story Script, Novel, any form of art. Sacrifice nothing for appeal to the masses. Make a ten hour movie, if that’s what gives you the fuzzy feeling when you create. Just create, and it plays itself out as time moves it along to the shelf, or into the hearts of all around you. Hopefully; giving them that same wonderful feeling that creating it gave you.
I have noticed (from the different commenters writing) that most of the people that enjoyed the movie are young…they did an absolute HORRIBLE job with this movie….I cant believe that Stephanie let this amazing book get destroyed. There were so many mistakes and scenes left out that were so important to their journey and scenes added that didnt make sense and were not even in the book!! Granted it isnt going to be exactly like the book but COME ON people open your eyes!!! the first kiss, for example, was NOT in her room…it was after the meadow scene….I cant even continue I’m so frustrated. I’m so scared to watch New Moon but hopefully the new director will do a better job….
In the book didnt she meet jacob at the beach and not when she first arrived at forks??? in the book while they were at the beach didnt he tell her about the cold ones??? So why in the movie did she have to go and buy a book about the tribe?? WTF why couldnt they stay true to the book with these little aspects?? The actors were fine, they did what they were told. Didnt she tell him in HIS CAR that she new he was a vampire and not in the middle of the forest??? In the book, didnt she run away from Alice and Jasper while they were at the airport, NOT THE HOTEL!! Did anyone else notice that they changed the entire book??? I understand that the faces and places wont be the same for everyone as we all pictured that differently but the lines, the journy that led to their love, their first kiss, the realization that he was a vampire…why couldnt that have stayed true to the book?? it makes no sense!!! ALSO, big thing here….in the BOOK when he is sucking the venom from Bella’s bite from James, he stops after all the venom is out…in the movie he has to be stopped by Carlisle…In the book, that is the point that he realizes he doesnt have to kill her, that he can be with her and not hurt her. In the movie it shows he has no control….i’m just so annoyed…i could keep going on and on but its not work it
I think a movie made based on a book, especially books with world-wide fans, would never get it right (look what happened to Harry Potter, Eragon, or PS I love you). But at the first place we should appreciate that there is this someone who’s willing to MAKE that movie and Hardwicke did that with twilight. And come on, the movie’s not that bad. After all some adjusting has to be done to make the movie more enjoyable to the viewers, and not all the viewers had read the book, so they needed to simplify this and that. Like the scene in Port Angeles, it would make more sense to those who hadn’t read the book if the reason for bella coming with her friends is to go to the bookstore she found in the internet that is located there as well. About the lack of intimacy between bella and edward in the movie, i agree. The other factor that made me wonder is why did Laurent a black guy and not pale and not “vampirish” enough, since in the book he was a beautiful guy jus like other vampires are.
But over all i’m not disappointed with the movie. of course the book is better, but that always happens. so looking forward to new moon!
Ok, I don’t even know where to start on this.
I think if I had watched the film without reading the book I would have immensely enjoyed it and found no fault but since I had the perfect insight into Bella’s Vampire-filled world from reading Twilight then there were some problems.
All of the die-hard Twilight fans I know, who had the experience of the book first, say the same as me.
Firstly, Edward was definately not casted right even though Robert Pattison is fantastically hot and vampireish and smoulders on screen. But then I realised, that’s exactly it. Edward was supposed to be perfection personified but he wasn’t meant to flaunt it. In writing he is lanky and boyish (which is not Robert Pattison) he also has ‘bronze’ hair that is always in ‘casual disarray’. Edward wasn’t supposed to be quite as popularly cool. He took pride in being a little uncool. That’s what made him handsome for me. I know it is impossible to match an actor perfectly to any character but they could have done better.
As for Bella, she may have been a little better chosen than Edward but I noticed some major flaws. The Bella from the book comes across as very clumsy and extremely fragile in Edwards eyes. She is also quite petite and tends to be an utter scatterbrain. This didn’t show in the film. Kirsten Stuart was a brilliant actress but she didn’t bring out the book Bella very well. She seemed more sturdier and just un-Bella-like all round. She also didn’t show just how infatuated Bella becomes with Edward. She didn’t sufficiently show the level of adoration she had for her ‘personal god’.
The rest of the actors were good enough but credit really had to go to the guy who played Carlisle (I’m temped to say that I enjoyed him better than I did Edward) and also Alice, Ashley Greene caught Alice’s bouyancy perfectly. As did Kellan Lutz who played Emmett. Jacob was brilliant but not quite how I imagined him to be.
Ok, enough about the casting. On to the storyline. It was good enough but yet again from my experience of the book I noticed how they left out some of my favourite book-bits. Especially (and I’m quite baffaled and enraged at the directors leaving this out) the part where Edward has to leave the Biology room because they are blood-testing. Bella faints and Edward carries her out to the nurse. That was one of the piviotal moments of the book when they begin to become infatuated with each other. They should never have just left that out.
To my dismay (and everyone elses) they got the first kiss entierely wrong. He definately does not kiss her in her bedroom but near the meadow, by the jeep and Bella doesn’t take it quite so calmly. I also REALLY didn’t like the way Edward reveals his shimmering skin to her on a rock, somewhere random, instead of in his special, beautiful breathtaking meadow.
Overall, I do have to admit that the film was a good one. Though it could have easily been made into a awesome film by a little recast and by sticking to the wonderful, breathtaking details of the book.
The moviw left out the stuff about Alices past, how are they gonna use that in the next movie, it also rushed there relationship ALOT the book shows them kinda getting used to each other and the others at school getting used to them to. It seemed like they just wanted to rush the romance, but I wouldn;t mind watching a 3-4 hour twilight movie with all the abandoned parts put in.
I can’t begin to even explain how much was wrong in that film.
Ok to Robert Pattison WELL DONE for getting Edward’s character to good
To Kirsten Stewart- Your a good actress I just don’t believe you played a good bella.
Now James was agood villain you could see is hunger threw his eyes
Carlisle & Esme’s actor’s was the perfect choice
Now for the film.
It was completely and utterly off the mark!
If your going to animate a book DO IT PROPERLY.
I understand it’s difficult to bring across the novel cause alot of it consists of Bella’s thoughts but com on they could have used MONOLOGUES to explain her thoughts. But they didn’t leaving people who didn’t read the book confused as to why her curious face ran like that.
They missed out so many key scenes of development between her and Edward. The times they sat for lunch alone. The talks they shared on ‘theories’ she had of him. The slow intimae touches to see if he control himself around her neck and jawline. It’s ridiculous. Had I hav not read the book I would not understand why these two are suddenly in love!
They missd out the morning after the night he stayed around, the breakfast time joke she made cupping her hands around her neck.
& So much more!!!
The scenes that they did try to illustrate in the film were often so very wrong! Such as the talk they had clearing up that he indeed is a vampire that took place in the car when he was driving her back NOT THE WOODS. and she never sed YOUR A VAMPIRE SHE SED… ‘ i dont care what you are.’
Her prom dress was meant to be blue (Edward likes blue on her he finds it ‘to temptijg’ BUT viewers wouldn’t know that they missd out so much.! Such as her sleep talking and…
Ahhhh Im so fustrated! lol
Stephenie Myers I am sorry on your behalf your work is amazing Iv never liked a book so much! But the director ruined it… it was dull lifeless the special effects where a joke.
The van scene was so off.
I could goon all day.
I feel, like many other fans/viewers of the twilight movie, that the movie was rushed and didnt hold the same intensity as the book had. It hid the true characters such as jasper, rosalie, and alice behind the main characters and the were a major part of the book and the plot of the book as well. All the characters picked for the movie were just how I pictured it but I noticed many changes from book in the movie to the fact that there was no rocking chair in Bella’s room.
Okay so i liked the movie but it didnt live up to the books not even close. one second they are too normal people (not really but u get the point) and then their in Love good thing i read the books (luv emmm) or else i would be sooooooooo confused. And i think Kristen Sturat was sooo annoying like she was just sooooo bad I HATE HER!!! But Robert was just the perfect pick for Edward (unbalivably Gorgious) But without those flaws i loved the movie (but thanku for getting a new directer)
I’m totally in love with the books I mean every single book ! I’ve read them so fast and appreciate every moment (except one actually ..maybe you’ll understand what I mean).
But I think the movie sucks! The main characters (except Charlie) don’t know how to make you feel “the twilighht atmosphere”. Where ’s the attraction, the no-limits love ?! That is barely shown in the movie. Moreover the actors are incredibly bad, you just wanna laught when you hear them (biggest laughter: the scene in biology when Robert Pattinson seems about to be sick !!! Why the hell have they choosen him ?!!!! And Kirsten Stewart is so umpleasant..she keeps sighing and well she’s unbearable and doesn”t act like Bella) .
So well I’ve been truly disappointed with that movie but I still love the books and Edward is still that beautiful vampire to me (you just have to practice your “non-thinking Robert Pattinson”)
And again to Robert Pattinson’s fans.;i mean no harm I just don’t like his acting in this movie
I went to the movie without reading the book first. A friend had bought the book for me for my birthday in Dec, but I told her I really wasn’t into vampires, etc. But she raved about it so much, I went to the movie just last week. I loved the movie, intriqued by the story – I sat up all night and read the book. I bought New Moon the next at the used book store and stayed up all night reading it. I cried through it – so sad for so long. I don’t know how I feel about seeing the movie for it. I do wish Twilight had been somewhat longer – but I really enjoyed it.
I have not seen the movie yet.
After reading the things others have said I’m not sure I want to.
My expectations are quite unrealistic.
I liked lots of other books. I loved some of them. However… No book has ever given me the incredibly real emotional high that these books gave me. Perhaps I lack perspective.
I do not drink & never have. Never got high or tried the blue pill just for fun. Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse & Breaking Dawn “are my personal brand of cocaine”
REALLY GOOD S#@*T!
While I am waiting for Stephanie to write another book I will concentrate on loving my Bella (Becky- who loves the books as much as I do) so much she can’t catch her breath.
I agree with all the people sayin that the film wasnt as good as the book. all the books are amazing but now i’ve watched the film i am a bit annoyed because the characters werent as i imagined them in my head, but now ive seen the characters in the film i cant remember what i thought they were like in my head before! it has spoilt the books for me. i think i would have enjoyed the film if i hadnt read the books first. the film just doesnt live up to them.
I think the Twilight movie was very disappointing to say the least. The book was more of a love story and the movie didn’t even scratch the surface. Instead nurturing the relationship and focusing on Bella and Edward they rushed everything. I feel everyone lost out on this one, Twilight readers and non-readers alike. Everyone missed out on how beautiful their love story really was. So many important parts of the book were left out that I’m sure many Twilight fans would haven wanted to see. For instance, the blood typing, the question and answer scenes in the caf, the gym scene with Mike, the question and answers at the restaurant/car scene after Lonnie tried to hurt Bella. Last but not least, the meadow scene. These were all important to the developing relationship of the couple!! The whole rescue scene in the parking lot was a disgrace! It was all wrong. Bella didn’t even hurt her head in the scene!! How there love developed was handled badly. I don’t understand why they couldn’t do a better job telling the story. To me it was a tender love story not an action flick. The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter movies did their books justice why couldn’t The Twilight movie have done the same? I just hope the director does a better job with the next 3 movies! How Stephenie could have let this movie be made is beyond me. The movie writers should be ashamed of themselves. I’m not even sure I’m going to see the other 3 movies, I think I’ll stick to my imagination’s version of the books instead. I’m totally heartbroken by how mishandled the whole project was……
YES – the movie is WAY better than the book. I got SOOOO sick of reading about Bella’s infatuation with Edward and how “beautiful” he was. Alright already! We get it, don’t need to read that sappy stuff every time we turn around. The movie – much better. In fact, I’ll just skip the 2nd book and watch the film version instead. I don’t think I can stomach more sappiness in the written word.
The movie fails spectacularly to live up to the book, I was deeply disappointed when seeing the movie for the first time. Yes, we are aware that not everything in the book can be portrayed in the movie, but by god, It’s nearly as if everything in the book was twisted, shaped, and moulded into something completely different. The story in the movie is the same general, basic plot as the book of course, but the director has turned the movie into a vision that’s completely her own. Not a good idea if you want to get on the book books of hundreds of millions of fans world wide. We can understand the necessity to remove certain things from the book, but bear in mind there are far too many extremely unnecessary elemants that were not in the book that were put in the film as well. The director of twilight was a complete and utter flop, she didn’t live up to the story of the book, she got the casting wrong for bella and I am overall glad she’s sacked from making the other movies.
I thought the movie was the worst movie i have ever seen it was horrible it was nothing like the book.
Okay so I have read the Twilight Saga five times through and I absolutely love the serious. But I saw the movie BEFORE I read the book and i liked the movie… but then I read the book and i was so mad. The movie was NOTHING LIKE THE BOOK. I mean it was the same story I guess but okay listen-
In the book, Stephanie described Edward as THE most beautiful “person” like in the world ever.. but in the movie he looks pasty and kind of ugly. And all the other vampires don’t look that breathtaking. Rose is supposed to be PERFECT. She isn’t that pretty in the movie at all…..
Second, Edward is supposed to be graceful and perfect and fluent and charming. In the movie he sounds like he is nervous and stumbling and trying to think of what to say. I really don’t think that that is what Meyer was intending when she wrote the his voice was like velvet.
Third- the LUNCH SCENE ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Bella is supposed to talk to JESSICA and Edward was supposed to never talk to her. God, it is so different.. and the apple?!?!?! MY Gosh!
Fourth ” Say it, Say it out Loud” “Vampire” HHAHAHAHAHA! That never happened and that is sooooo cheesy.
Fifth- The meadow scene. They butchered it.
Sixth- Their passion and love for each other was horribly portrayed in the movie. I mean it looked like an awkward and forced relationship.
Seventh- When I read the book AFTER i had watched the movie…i better understood the HISTORY of the vampires. The movie killed that too by rarely mentioning it.
Eight- Jasper.. poor poor Jasper didn’t get the credit he deserved in the movie.
Ninth- When Bella first comes the house.. its diff.
Okay so I could go on and on. There are around twenty or so other BIG differences. Basically the movie changed the lines, twisted them around a lot. They made the vamps kind of ugly. They took out KEY scenes. They changed the scenes. They took away the love Bella and Edward have in the book. They killed scenes.
All in all I am obsessed with the series and I didn’t think the movie did it justice. BUT i did like the movie, I though Robert did a great job.. I didn’t like Kristen(Bella) at all.. she wasn’t pretty like the book portrayed. I look forward to the coming three remakes.. but I know they will not be as good as the books. :’/
I HATE THE MOVIE!
it makes me so mad you have no idea! they left SOOO many parts out! This was the worst book-to-movie i have ever seen! Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was the best book-to-movie.
Ugh. I’m sooo disapointed!
This reallt pains me to say this but, I laughed throughout the movie. And that’s not a good thing.
I loved the books. The movie- not so much.
There was such great promise for this movie. I mean, it’s the first movie in the series- it should not have been butchered like this.
1) The Acting
Overdone, corny and forced. Kristen Stewart did not give Bella, in my opinion. She sounded dead the whole time. The scene when she first enters the biology class…Oh gosh I was hysterical. It was horrible.
2) Almost every scene that made me love the book and the characters was cut out. There was no playful, smoldering banter between Edward and Bella. The Cullens were hardly in it.
3) The Makeup
The Cullens looked like people wearing Halloween makeup to make them look sickly pale. Not very vampire-ish. Not very appealing.
Again, it pains me to say such negative things about a movie I was so excited about. I hope they do justice to New Moon and go back and remake Twilight.
ok i for one HAVE NOT READ THE BOOKS YET, and i will admit i was realy confused about the movie. i dint even know that ‘twilight’ even existed till a week ago (i have glanced at the book in stores but never picked it up) when i saw a clip about it on TV and looked it up to learn more about it then i saw the movie and ive seen it every day since then!!!!!! ive seen the movie eight times and i still cant get myself to stop thinking about it!!i dint understand jacob black very well i had to go on the computer and do some late home work becuse i dont have the book to read and LATER i found about jacob black becuse he was very strange in the movie (i think hes a ware wolf im still not quite shure). i loved the movie, but i think that if i read the book i will love it more. i thought robbert patison did a amazing job at edward! kristen was good but the whole movie was akward becuse of her. i did notice that they never said “i love you” yet edward acted as if he would walk through fire for her. my favorite scene was baseball with the cullins! coffins and dungins and motes was a bit extreme and akward yet a BIT cute (i do understand that bella had no idea what a vampire’s life was like so how would she know better?) but i did love the movie and i did go on amazon.com to read the same first five pages of the book over and over agin. im still begging for my mom to get me the book!!!!!!! i wanted to know more about alice becuse she seamed realy nice and they dont say anthing about her! jasper was VERY strange and he DID look like he was in pain the whole movie!!!!! going online and hearing about ‘when edward left’ was very confusing to me! i dont understand that part BUT I LOVED THE MOVIE! and i will most likly see the movie every day till i get the book! altho i have never read the book i do know it was hard to direct the movie becuse they had alot of information to try to pack in two hours. but i loved the movie and i realy want to read the books and yes i do love vampires!!!!
Ok I am one of the biggest fans of Twilight ever I read it WAY before even the THOUGHT of a movie came up so I have been a fan for awhile… wen they started the movie at first I was alittle bit worried of course but all in all excited but now that Ive seen it I am utterly dissapointed! With all the time they had to do this and this is wat they come up with…First of all everything moves way to fast how can they possibly fall in love so quickly not to mention Edward always seems so angry with Bella and Bella slips on her speech so much i mean at first u can say it is nervousness around Edward but come on let up a little Secondly all the scenes r messed up and mixed up i understand the whole u got to cut some scenes cz the book is so long but if that was the case why n the hell did u ADD another scene like the feild trip instead of putting that in u couldve added the questions scene this is just my opinion
Not even close.. The movie had so much potential with such a great story line to work from, and didnt come anywhere near the quality it should and could have, with a better director and less awkwardness on the part of the actors.. only people with no real understanding of acting and literature could have thought the movie was any good at all. If I hadnt read the books first, I wouldnt even have finished the movie, it was so devoid of flow and depth. I just kept hoping at some point it would get better, but it never did
I love the movie I happen to see it before I read the books and yes I realized after I read Twilight that the movie missed a lot of key points but at the same time I still have a fondness for the movie. I am however hoping that the next movie goes more by the book but I am looking forward to the release of the new moon. my opinion of critics are not flattering I feel they speak for there taste not the publics so I say see the movie and judge for yourself let no one else make your judgement for you
The movie left out a lot that I thought was pretty important. Like all of Bella’s blushing, Edward loved that. Also Edward is no where near as hot in the movie. Jacob is not as muscular as he should be and in the movie he’s supposed to look out of place and kinda be clumsy like Bella. Jasper looks like he’s in pain. He is also not hot what so ever. Alice on the other had is perfect. Esme could stand to be a couple of years older. Carlisle is perfect. Emmet is O.K. Oh, and Charlie Swan is perfect for his part. I’m really hoping they’ll show more of the blushing and loving between Edward and Bella in New Moon. I also wish they would find someone new to play Jacob.
I have quite a different perspective I think. I am not a book reader at all. Every time I try to start a book, I fall asleep before the first chapter is over. Sadly, I think I don’t have the imagination it takes to get into them. I do however love movies. I saw the movie Twilight recently and loved it. I even bought it on iTunes and loaded it onto my iPhone. But, I had no idea there was a series of books that this came from. I apologize for being an idiot, but it’s just not something I keep up with. I was so captured by the movie that I flew out to the store and bought New Moon. I didn’t have any idea how in the world I was going to get through it, but I had to try! I had to know what happened next! I bought New Moon at 2:00 in the afternoon that day on my way to pick up my son from school….I finished it that night at midnight!!!!! I have NEVER read an entire book before! I was totally captivated and had absolutely no concept of time. I did come to a weird conclusion though. If I had not seen the movie first, I do not think I would have been able to read New Moon and fully grasp everything. Meaning… it was so easy for me to put a face with whoever was speaking in the book. I could see the whole thing in my head like a movie. Everytime Alice spoke, I could see her with her cute black hair and could see Jacob with his fierce eyes and strong arms. It really helped me keep up with what was going on. I’m sure this is totally backwards from what normal people do, but it worked for me! I am reading other posts and it sounds like the movie missed alot, but I wasn’t lost at all. I knew exactly what was going on and I had no trouble continuing into New Moon. I felt that it let me know what I needed to know, when I needed to know it. I’m going back to the bookstore to buy Eclipse today. I can’t wait for the New Moon movie! To see the words come to life and compare it to what was in my mind should be really interesting!
There wasn’t enough detail, everything was way to rushed. You never got to see the real edward and bella together…….so sad it really is a great series
As compared to the book, the movie was a child’s drawing of the Sistine Chapel. The director and the casting director lacked all ability to capture the escence and detail of the book!
The newest brother on ‘Brothers & Sisters’ is a MUCH better pick for Ed. There’s a server at the Ramada in Salt Lake City that’s a perfect Jake. If only he knew…Not one of the other vamps were as ridiculously hot as described in the book.
Acting…Lacking. Truly, it was fair acting but it was NOT what the book developed. What was with all of Bella’s eye fluttering?!
Character & plot development…virtually absent!
okay so i know everyone is set on writing a 7 page review or this but here ir is as aimple as that…..the books are better than the movie…they had limited money to do the movie which deff. effected it. i do think katherine dirrected it like thirteen though which i was not pleased with…..the scenes they chose to take out and put…those were a poor choice…and i was noe pleased with not mentioning alice’s gift but oh well…i did however like the cast i think they did a great job with that and i liked the acting…..New Moon will be much better it will follow the story better and the actors know what they r doing this time around…so there…
btw i meant hjaspers gift not alices’
After reading the entire Twilight saga books, I must admit that the movie was a total disappointment. So many scenes were wrong — and some many of them left out in the movie. They should have kept the meadow scene the way it was in the book, and added the blood type scene too. It was very rushed and didn’t capture the love affair between Edward and Bella like the book….major let down.
I watched the movie before reading the book and I loved it.The actors seemed to fit their parts and the cinematography was great, visually it was a beautiful movie,Though it did seemed rush and there wasn’t a sense of a real love connection between Bella and Edward, after reading the book I feel the movie cleaned up some of the sloppy dialog in the book.First of all the way the book was written struck me as very amateurish, the author seemed very detached to how modern teenagers actually are and there was not enough contrast in the personalities of all the characters.I liked some of the changes the movie made over the situations portrayed in the book.Overall I like the books and the movie, but they aren’t amazing, the book could have been written much better,I have read more creative stories written by teenagers online. The movie could have been longer and put more emphasis on developing the relationship between Bella and Edward.
ok I agree with most of the comments below me.
I am a Twilight fan and I actually saw the movie first and then read the book. After reading the book I was really disappointed. Not at the cast but at the important details they left out and how some of the characters in the movie werent like in the book. Bella and Edward dont even look like they’re that madly in love and the other characters didnt even have many lines. Also the way people met and did stuff wasnt like in the book. Why dont they make the movies longer and have all the details like Harry Potter. Those movies are like 3 hours long but it wouldnt be a problem to US Twilight fans. So I just HOPE that the rest of the movies would be Better.
i know that it is common to say that movie has to be different from the book or else it won’t be interesting for the reader to watch..but come on!!!!
if the book is great, everyone loves it, then why the heck somebody think it will be better to change it somehow? i really DON’T know anybody who, already read the book, would go to the cinema and spend his money just to watch a totally different movie.
twilight sagas first book [and the movie] was supposed to be about first love and butterflies in the stomach. the movie was about nothing more than a friendship, there were no feelings! i was really disappointed.
my favorite books were the first and the last one. the first is ruined as a film, so i’ll just hope that at least the ending will be as it should be.
about actors. robert pattison for my mind is pretty handsome and he could been perfect edward cullen, but in twilight it was shame to look at him because of the overdosed make up. in addition his face was taken from the worst angles so it looked like a square.
kristen stewart looks suitable for bellas character but her acting was soooooooo lame and awkward!!! i just pissed me off most of the time. she did nothing but blinked her eyes all the time like she would be mentally retarded and wouldn’t understand a word everybody’s saying her. her acting improved only in the prom scene for, my mind.
also i was pretty pissed by-
edw: “so, you’re enjoying the rain? …what?”
bel: “you’re asking me about the weather?”
WHAT IS THAT???? WHAAT???????? i don’t know who added this line but he should really think over his life… x/
i didn’t want to sound too negative but i just wanted share my feelings about this one…
