It's true that it's important to familiarize yourself with literary magazines, but with so many out there these days, this process can be daunting. To help you sort out what magazines are best for you and how best to approach them, I'll be posting profiles of different magazines over the next few months. American Short Fiction, a two-time finalist for the National Magazine Award in Fiction whose stories have been included in anthologies such as the O. Henry Prize Stories and Best American Short Stories, kicks it off with a profile completed by Fiction Editor Stacey Swann.
