Each year Poets & Writers Magazine chooses a poet and a fiction writer from one state and hosts a trip to New York for them to meet with agents, editors, and established writers. P&W just announced that this year's contest is open to writers from Vermont, and that the deadline is December 1.
According to the site, the Writers Exchange Contest "was created to introduce emerging poets and fiction writers to literary communities outside of their home state and provide them with a network for professional advancement." To download and application and review guidelines, please see the P&W site. I've never talked to anyone who has participated in the program, and would love to hear from anyone who has in the forum. It sounds like a great opportunity for writers seeking professional contacts.
