Choosing an MFA Program

A lot has been written about the pros and cons of writing programs. While I agree that there is room for improvement, creative writing programs can provide time and space to write that would not necessarily be available otherwise. For many writers, MFA programs also introduce a larger world, both professionally and personally. Admittedly, not everyone has a positive experience in their MFA program; even the best programs can be at times uncomfortable places. For this reason, it's important to do some real soul-searching during the application process. Some careful consideration can make a big difference.
